Right around the end of February, EVERY year, those of you who made the New Year's Resolution to "Get In Shape" are starting to 'fall off the wagon'.
As you probably know, part of what I do is coach people who want/need help getting more exercise (movement) into their lives, eating better (not counting calories ~ just making better food choices) and improving their health and wellness.
... of course New Year's resolutions and goal setting is something a lot of us do and the number 1 resolution is... you guessed it~ To lose weight and get in shape!
It really is about behavior modification because most people already know WHAT to do... but to figure out how to apply it in your daily life is key.
Once you know your 'triggers' which cause you to go astray ~it is just a matter of making a commitment to make the right choices (even if/ when you don't want to.)
Here now is what you have been searching for, the ONE secret to finally being successful and reaching your goals!
What I'm about to tell you is very simple, but very profound... if you adhere to it.
When I first started in business over 20 years ago, I read a statement I liked and believe to be true. Commit this statement to memory and think about it when you don't feel like doing what-ever it is you need to do.
"Successful people do it even when they don't want to." I suggest you re-phrase it to make it more personalized, such as "I will do what I need to do, even if I don't feel like it, because I am successful at (fill in your goal)" ie: making the right food choice, exercising 4 times each week, etc.
Because Successful people have made a commitment to reach their goal, what-ever it may be, they do what it takes by following thru with it even if it is hard, or not popular, or doesn't taste as good, or isn't as much fun.
We all make these choices many times every day. It is simply a matter of making the right choice!
Whether I'm tempted by a carton of cookie-dough ice cream or catch a glimps of a good TV show as my kids are watching and I have work to do, I remind myself of my goals. When presented with choices this thought has helped me get where i am today. Of course I don't do the right thing 100% of the time, but if I do it MOST of the time, I am still ahead of the game.
All of my 'success-story' clients have adopted this thinking and it is the ONLY thing that has made a difference for them. They have tried ALL the diets, exercise programs, pills and potions, but once they see their goal clearly, each time they have a choice they know to make the right choice to get closer to their goal.
